Freemasons Donation provides vital contact with families for hospital patients

Freemasons have made a large donation of tablet devices to care homes and hospitals during the coronavirus crisis.

Restrictions on visitors, during the coronavirus crisis, for people staying in hospitals, care homes, or hospices means that some patients can be without contact with their loved ones for weeks at a time.

The current crisis has forced NHS hospitals to limit visits in an attempt to control infections, leading them to think of alternative ways for their patients to stay in touch with families.

A new nation-wide initiative by the Freemasons across England and Wales has seen nearly 1,000 tablet devices delivered to hospitals and care homes. More than 50 hospitals, care homes, and hospices across their regions have now benefited from these donations.

The Freemasons donations were coordinated through a new Covid-19 Response Group, which was formed by the United Grand Lodge of England (UGLE) as an emergency structure in response to coronavirus.

Its purpose is to deliver life-changing initiatives, on a national scale, to those in need.

Hospitals in receipt of these tablets include The Royal London Whitechapel, Queen Mary’s Roehampton Wandsworth, and St Thomas’ Westminster, London.
