For the first time in over ten years Derbyshire Freemasonry will have a visual presence at the Bakewell Show between the 3rd and 4th August 2016.
A coach full of REMAF members (Retired Masons Fellowship) left Ellesmere Port Masonic Hall early on Monday for their annual summer jaunt, this time they set-off for the sunny Lake District town of Bowness for a boat and train journey around Lake Windermere. First it was all on board the Tern built in 1891 originally steam powered but now converted to diesel for a sail to Lakeside, then across the landing stage to board a 1950’s Lakeside Steam Railway train heading for Haverthwaite, a stop for afternoon tea then a return journey to Lakeside to meet our coach for the trip back home.
The members of Amadeus Lodge recently made a very welcome donation of £ 500 to PACT – the Parents Association of Children with Tumours and Leukaemia.
Freemasons around the world are very proud of their history and customs, so much so than many lodge archives as well as masonic museums are full to bursting with artefacts and items of interest going back hundreds of years. One of the most iconic and obvious items that your attentions within a Freemasons lodge is the intricate lodge banner which hangs in an illuminated position for all to see. This is an item that lodges like to keep and display for all to see, despite many decades of wear and tear.
On Saturday 27th February 2016, VW Bro Brian Hilling and W Bro Steve McGarvie travelled to Porthcawl to attend the official opening of the new “Guys and Dolls” Hair and Beauty Salon.
During the afternoon the stiff breeze often presented a challenge to the competitors which added humour amongst the players with golf balls constantly spinning out of control. At the end of the competition the player’s ranks were swelled when the Ormskirk and Bootle Group Chairman Frank Umbers and others joined them for a well-earned drink at the 19th hole.
Children have learnt about the importance of BEES and how we can look after them, by becoming aware of how delicate their environment is and being a life scientist in the process.
Members of Vale Lodge No 5256 held a very successful evening at the Longlands Hotel, Tewitfield, near Carnforth to celebrate and honour ‘The Ladies’. The WM of the lodge Bill Byrne and the principal guest, his wife Ela, were delighted to welcome fellow Masons, family and friends to their special evening, which was orchestrated with precision and humour by the lodge director of ceremonies Norman Mitchell.
On 2nd June, 2016, prior to the final meeting of the Trevor Kelway Lodge No. 8466 before its summer break, the Worshipful Master, W.Bro. Robert Stevens, presented a cheque to Mr Clive Scourfield, the Wales Air Ambulance Charity Community Coordinator for Carmarthenshire. Also included in the picture are members of the Trevor Kelway Lodge.
Business student Allison Hatton was selected by Pembrokeshire College to receive this year’s Colin O’Dare Masonic Bursary Award, given annually by the Provincial Grand Charity of the Masonic Province of West Wales to encourage worthy students to further their education. After being made redundant at the age of 50, Allison enrolled on to the BA (Hons) Business Management course at Pembrokeshire College and has since started-up her own business selling used books on-line.
