A perfect day for the Lancaster Group walk

It was ‘just a perfect day’. That was how one participant described the Lancaster and District Group Annual Sponsored Walk.  Similar song titles could have been appropriately applied with ‘Walking on sunshine’ and ‘Bring me sunshine’ being two that immediately spring to mind.

Over 20 walkers from 13 lodges accompanied by numerous children and two very well behaved dogs set off from Rowley Court, Lancaster to enjoy a choice of two routes prepared for them by members of the Duke of Lancaster Lodge No 1353, who were hosting the event this year. Walk organiser Malcolm Morrison, led one group along the Lancaster Canal in a circular route via Aldcliffe, whilst Steve Stanley guided another group on a foray through the woods encompassing Lancaster University.

As temperatures rose throughout the day, peaking in the mid-20s C (around 77oF for us ‘old ‘uns’), it’s reported that regular pauses for refreshment were made. However, being assured that these were all of a ‘non-alcoholic’ nature and careful scrutiny of the submitted photographs shows a disappointing lack of evidence to challenge this assertion!

It was a happy but weary group who were grateful for the refreshments provided at the end of their labours, but they quickly discovered that further effort was required as a quiz had been devised by Malcolm to exercise their minds on their return to Rowley Court.

Lancaster Group Secretary Scott Devine, who participated, thanked the walkers for their efforts and expressed his gratitude for the sponsorship total that had been raised. He also thanked Malcolm, Steve and the members of the Duke of Lancaster Lodge for hosting another successful walk.
