Richard Lee from Tewkesbury is a volunteer ‘Puppy Walker’ and over the years has succeeded in ‘raising’ 15 of his 18 puppies to become fully-trained guide-dogs. On Tuesday 7th June, Brethren from East Lancashire made an early start catching the 8.35 am Virgin Train from Manchester Piccadilly to London Euston. Stops were made at Stockport, Macclesfield and Stoke where we collected additional Brethren to make a total of 65 in our party. By 9.30 am, we were all enjoying refreshments with drinks served by the Grand Stewards David Biggs and Gerry Young, assisted by Tracy our Stewardess from Virgin.
Generosity of donors had made an enormous difference in helping residents to rebuild their lives.Colin Stroud, chair of the York Disaster Fund, said 250 grants totalling £440,000 had been given out so far to 175 households, so there were still funds available to which people could apply. Yorkshire Freemasons have, to date, contributed £25,000 to the appeal.
It was ‘just a perfect day’. That was how one participant described the Lancaster and District Group Annual Sponsored Walk. Similar song titles could have been appropriately applied with ‘Walking on sunshine’ and ‘Bring me sunshine’ being two that immediately spring to mind.
