Jo Davies was a well-known and popular community journalist with the Barrow-in-Furness based Evening Mail, but sadly she died in 2015 at the age of 38 years as a result of ovarian cancer. With the aim of raising funds to help the fight against gynaecological cancer, the ‘Jo’s Appeal’ charity was established a few days before her death.
St David’s Hospice provides 24 hour care, 365 days a year through their clinical service including emotional, physical and spiritual support. The Day Care Unit provide patient care, bereavement and counselling services, and the 14 bed Inpatient Unit offers symptom control, respite and end of life care.
A group of Surrey residents who find it challenging to communicate because of their profound and multiple learning disabilities are being helped thanks to a £15,000 grant from the Masonic Charitable Foundation
It is 60 years since PWS was discovered, and the Masonic Charitable Foundation is marking the event with a grant of £10,000 to the Prader-Willi Syndrome Association UK. The donation will help to fund a support worker for families with a PWS child in the south of England.
The Children’s Trust’s brain injury specialists are experienced clinicians, who will work with the child, family and school, providing advice, brain injury education and classroom strategies to support each child.
The grant will be used to fund the role of a Brain Injury Specialist at Sheffield Children’s Hospital who will support around 500 children across South Yorkshire, North Lincolnshire and North Derbyshire over the next two years.
The Craft Provinces of Herefordshire, Shropshire and Worcestershire with the Mark Province of Staffordshire and Shropshire have, over that period, between them donated £1.1 million. This includes donations from individual Lodges, Provinces, other orders in the counties and from the Masonic Charitable Foundation (formerly the Freemasons Grand Charity).

Contact the Elderly is dedicated to tackling loneliness and social isolation among older people. Supported by a network of volunteers, the charity organises monthly Sunday afternoon tea parties for small groups of older people, aged 75 and over, who live alone.
