As Wells Cathedral reopens its doors, Somerset Freemasons have supported its charitable appeal with a £10,000 donation.
During its three months of closure, some 70,000 people have been unable to visit Wells Cathedral. As a result, it now faces a real financial challenge.
Crewkerne Freemasons and the Somerset Provincial Grand Lodge are sponsoring Donald Gray’s production of PPE ear protectors for NHS staff, care workers and others employed on the front line during the Covid-19 pandemic. Mr Gray who is a member of the Parrett and Axe Lodge, whose meetings are held at the Masonic Hall in South Street, is making batches of the ear protectors on a 3D printer at his home near Yeovil.
Having heard about the unfortunate criminal act, the close friendship between the Buckinghamshire Freemasons as a charitable organisation and the community hospital triggered a ‘chain’ reaction to the situation.
A hundred older carers who look after people with learning disabilities will be given help and support, thanks to a grant of £52,000 to the Reach Learning Disability charity from Nottinghamshire Freemasons.
