FREEMASONS in the Keswick area handed over a cheque for £2,000 to help Keswick Rugby Club

FREEMASONS in the Keswick area handed over a cheque for £2,000 to help Keswick Rugby Club deal with the aftermath of Storm Desmond.

Eddie Crosby, Grand Prefect of Cumberland and Westmorland Freemasons, said freemasons raise a lot of money for charity nationally, but members of the five local councils wanted to help out in their immediate area, too.

He said: “We’ve a small order of around 200 members and wanted to help out. We knew Keswick Rugby Club had suffered flood damage on several occasions in the last few years, and as they cover such a wide spectrum of the community, including youth teams and ladies’ teams, they seemed the ideal group to help.”

When rugby club president Malcolm Craghill received the cheque he said: “We were surprised and delighted and very grateful to our own local freemasons for their help.

“It has been a very difficult time for the club, but this kind of support is well received.

“Our pitches have just been relaid and we hope they will be ready for the season ahead.”
