It was a very hot Tuesday evening when the members of the Lord Warden Lodge and guests which totaled over 50 arrived at the Masonic Centre, Sondes Road, Deal to support a local charity, Digbys Smile.
The charity is for a little boy from Deal, called Digby Donnelly. Digby suffers from a fatal and incurable illness called Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD).
The charity was brought to the attention of the lodge by one of our members and close friend of Digby’s family, Harry Prescott. His love and passion for helping Digby were overwhelming, and as a lodge, we just couldn’t refuse to help.
The evening started in the Lodge Room, with Immediate Past Master Ray Horton, welcoming everyone to the Lodge.
Ray gave a background of what Freemasonry is and what it means to be a Freemason.
He then handed over to Harry who talked a little about why we chose this charity, who Digby was and how much it meant to him and the members of the lodge that we could help Digby’s parents and Charity. So the fundraising began, and with the help of a fellow Freemason, Jonathan Bowles and his RUNN Ashore group, plus a contribution from his lodge, we were able to raise a fantastic sum of £600.
Once the presentation was completed in the Lodge Room and photos were taken, we all headed downstairs for some refreshments and a cooling down. A lovely spread of food and drinks was enjoyed by all.
A raffle took place and another £232 was raised for another local charity. Ellice’s Wish to Walk. (see below)
The lodge was also in a position to announce that we had also donated £150 to Breast Cancer Screening. taking the total monies raised and donated for the night to £982. The Lodge would like to thank all those who came and supported such good causes.

About Digby
Just4Children wants to raise funds for Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) surgery, to help make Ellice’s Wish to Walk come true. Ellice is 5 and from Deal, Kent. Ellice was born seven weeks early weighing 3lb 9oz. She spent a little time in N.I.C.U before coming home. When Ellice was 22 months she was not meeting her movement markers. Ellice was diagnosed with Diplegic Cerebral Palsy.
Diplegic CP causes the messages from the brain, through the spinal cord, to the muscles to be abnormal. This causes spasticity. Ellice is unable to walk without assistance. She currently uses a walking frame or wheelchair, when tired.
