The Province of Monmouthshire was this year represented at the 12th National Masonic Clay Shooting Championship by four members of the Monmouthshire Provincial Clay Shooting Association and four guests of W. Bro. Robert Daw. This years event was held at held at Wedgnock Clay Shooting Ground in Warwickshire under the banner of the Provincial Grand Lodge Of Warwickshire on the 18th of June. We were warmly welcomed by the host province and staff of the shooting ground and after a chance for a coffee and bacon sandwich after our long drive the day began with a safety briefing from the ground manager followed by the format for the day. Once he briefing was over we split up into our respective squads and headed for the shooting ground. The 100 target competition was held over 14 stands to give as wide a variety as possible. Following a sporting’s morning shoot with plenty of cheerful banter we finished the morning with a plated buffet lunch.

The need for this further essay was first made apparent to me when—in my capacity as Secretary of the Lodge and Editor of the Transactions—I began to receive inquiries from Brethren as far away as Vancouver and Singapore, asking for materials and information which might help them to complete their own papers on Kipling, and I found, to my surprise, that while our library contains a great deal of relevant material, there has never been a paper on Kipling in our Transactions.

£10,000 for Midlands Air AmbulanceThe Midlands Air Ambulance Charity is dear to the hearts of many Freemasons in the Province, providing a service which is especially important in a thinly populated rural area such as ours. The PGM, RW Bro Rev’d David Bowen, and his Deputy, VW Bro Michael Roff, presented a further £10,000 to the MAAC at Strensham Airbase on 30 April 2016. £6,000 of this was raised by Herefordshire Freemasons and provided through the Herefordshire Masonic Charity Association. The other £4,000 came from the Grand Charity as part of its programme of support for local causes throughout England and Wales, and which is distributed through the Provinces.
