When the master of Baldwin Lodge No 1398 Steve McKellar and his partner Christine were discussing what type of event to hold to mark Steve’s year in office they considered the usual options of a formal dinner/dance or a Sunday lunch.
The long-awaited Auction of Promises was held at Oswestry’s Wynnstay Hotel on 1st July in the presence of Provincial Grand Master Peter Taylor and his lady Pat. There were nearly 70 lots provided, from a beautiful ring through paintings, bottles and promises of flights, holidays, tuition in an array of skills, and much more besides. Auctioneer Michael Tomley was called on for all of his professional wiles as he attempted to part over 100 people from their cash.
The initiative was started in 2015 by Bucks Freemasons, and has now seen several hundred men in the county tested, with some of them having follow-on checks after receiving their PSA results.
During the day 117 visitors were tested.

Coffee and registration will be from 9.30AM.
The annual golf day of St Martins Lodge, Birmingham was held at Shirley Golf Club. 20 members of the lodge played on the day and the Lodge Trophy was won by the current Master of the Lodge, Malcolm Francis. The competition for the Lodge Trophy has been played every year since 1948. W Bro Michael Gregory, the Lodge Treasurer won the Chapter Trophy.
Mr David Eager of The Surrey Masonic Sports Association, has been awarded the Order of Mercy, a prestigious medal, for his voluntary service over many years to charities and non profit organisations in the United Kingdom and overseas.
The event engaged all ages of the community, it was organised to raise funds for local charities and last year raised £1,000 which members hope to meet or even exceed.
