STRANGE BUT TRUE

IMG_0400At their regular meeting held on Tuesday 17th May 2016, Endeavour and Astley Union Lodge No 830 the Members and visitors celebrated Christmas in a Hall decorated with bows of holly, where they enjoyed a full traditional turkey dinner with all the festive trimmings. They all sang carols and were later entertained by the Mill Town Cloggies, a local clog dancing troop, of which WBro Norman Haigh, the Lodge Charity Steward, is a member – the troop have been a welcome feature at the event for several years much to the appreciation of the Brethren.

So why Christmas in May?

The Lodge installation meeting is held in the third week of December and as one can imagine, amidst the Masonic installation protocol, there was very little time available for festive merriment. Many years ago it was the case that the Lodge calendar was very busy with the May meeting being the only month that could accommodate the Christmas Party….. And so the absurd tradition began and the event is extremely well supported and enjoyed by all.

A regular visitor to the event is W Bro Chris Kringle (Past Provincial Present Bearer) – see photo.

The WM and Brethren of Endeavour and Astley Union Lodge No 830 wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous remaining new year. Any Bro wishing to attend next years party are advised to book early to avoid disappointment
