Massachusetts Freemasons award student scholarships

Melrose residents Elena Bibilos and Kassandra Potamis each received scholarships from the Grand Lodge of Masons in Massachusetts. The Massachusetts Freemasons awarded 133 scholarships totalling $506,500 for the next academic year.

The Grand Lodge of Massachusetts awards scholarships based primarily on each applicant’s academic achievement, financial need, and broad participation in community and school activities. Since beginning the scholarship program in 1995, Massachusetts Freemasons have distributed more than $8 million to enable full time, undergraduate attendance at accredited educational institutions.

Bibilos is a 2017 graduate of Mystic Valley Regional Charter School. She will be studying at Providence College in the fall. Her father George is a member of Golden Rule Lodge in Wakefield, and a past Deputy Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Masons in Massachusetts.

Potamis studies sociology at Furman University in Greenvile, SC. Her father Greg is a member of Wyoming Lodge in Melrose.

“We need to invest in future generations in order to realize the best version of our fraternal legacy,” said Paul F. Gleason, Grand Master of Masons in Massachusetts. “We recognize the importance and impact post-secondary education has on young people. We are proud to contribute through this initiative and wish the recipients the best of luck as they pursue their education at schools throughout the country.”
