Freemasons, Rotary and Lions Clubs, help to marshal charity event

East Lakes Group support for Hospice at Home Moonlight Walk

East Lakes Group support for Hospice at Home Moonlight Walk

On Saturday 16th September 2017, Hospice at home, Carlisle and North Lakeland held a fund raising “Moonlight Walk” to commemorate the charities 20th anniversary. The walk commenced at 9.30pm from Penrith Leisure Centre and was supported by many local people who walked the 5 mile route in brightly coloured clothing. A minimum of £4,000 was raised for the charity.

Together with members of the local Rotary and Lions Clubs, Freemasons from the East Lakes Group of Lodges helped to marshal the charity event. A total of 13 Brethren volunteered, together with two of our members ladies, and more significantly, two candidates who are applying to join local Lodges. One will probably join Helvellyn Lodge in November, and the second, Ullswater Lodge in December. Brethren from as far afield as Alston and Brough gave their time to a very worthy cause. The event concluded with all the walkers and marshals safely back at the Leisure Centre before midnight, to enjoy a bacon butty.

There was a total of 30 marshals . Freemasons, their family members, and prospective candidates accounted for well over half of the volunteers. A wonderful effort much appreciated by the charity.
