Caldwell County students can receive bicycles this year for perfect attendance rewards thanks to donations from Princeton Freemasons.

Clinton Masonic Lodge #82 donated 20 bicycles this year to the school system — ten each for primary and elementary students.

It’s the fifth-straight year donating, secretary and past master William Perry II said, with contributions growing considerably from five bicycles donated in 2016.

“And last year we had 16, so we’re upping it. We like participating in the community and giving kids their recognition,” Perry said. “It’s amazing how a bicycle will encourage a child to commit to perfect attendance.”

Superintendent Nate Huggins said that increased perfect attendance also leads to more state funding for school systems.

“I’m excited for our district that schools are getting these donations; we’re doing everything we can to keep our kids in school and improve their attendance, and that gives us the further ability to fund daily activities,” the superintendent said.

Perry said he hopes next year will see more donations.

The donation program is part of statewide efforts through the Grand Lodge of Kentucky to highlight the value of education.
