Freemasons donate £2000 to Walsall Bereavement Support Service

Walsall Bereavement Support Service is a small charity offering help to any Walsall resident who has been affected by bereavement. By providing help when it’s needed, WBSS aims to prevent the negative effects that bereavement can have on a person’s mental and physical wellbeing and future life chances.

Bereavement is something that affects all of us at some stage in our lives; while most people are able to cope with the help of friends or family, others may struggle. Feelings of isolation and loss can become overwhelming, making it hard to cope with everyday living, work or family life.

WBSS supports the community by providing a wide range of services including a helpline, one to one counselling sessions, a support group for adults bereaved through suicide and a specialist service, called The Swing, to help children and young people.

The Swing focuses on supporting children and young people; offering one to one support, group and family therapy.

The support and information provided through The Swing helps children to understand death and loss in a way that they are able to relate to. Through talking and the use of creative interventions, they are encouraged to explore their thoughts about what has happened and to express them without feeling that they are being judged, or worrying about upsetting those around them. The ultimate aim of The Swing is to enable any bereaved child and young person to find their own solutions and to help reduce the risk of the negative effects of bereavement.

In 2017, Walsall Bereavement Support Service received a grant of £2,000

We are hugely thankful for this generous grant from the Masonic Charitable Foundation. The grant it is very important to us as it will assist in helping to fund the continued delivery of our children and young people’s bereavement support service – The Swing
