The event was very well supported with 32 golfers taking part. Following the distribution of prizes a magnificent £610 was raised for Masonic charities and a further £50 for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital; chosen by the Captain of Southport Old Links Golf Club for the hospitality shown by the staff and club.
The Grand Charity has awarded a £100,000 grant to the Cancer Genetics team at the University of East Anglia to help fund research that will focus on distinguishing between aggressive and non-aggressive forms of the disease. Lead researcher Professor Colin Cooper explained that a critical problem in clinical management is an inability to distinguish this at the time of diagnosis.
On Friday, 8th July, the Provincial Grand Master of Valencia, RWBro Norman Wheatley, made a surprise visit to the Blasco Ibanéz summer school in Guadalest to visit the children and see for himself how the school was progressing. For the last four years, Freemasons in Spain have sponsored under-privileged children to attend this summer school for both enjoyment and learning in a friendly and safe atmosphere. At present thirty-five children are at the school, of which eighteen are from the El Preventorio children’s home in Gandia.
St Cecilia will soon commence rehearsals and intends to launch its first demonstration at its’ next meeting in November, as a taster ready for 2017.
The Royal Arch Provincial Executive of Essex have produced 2 new leaflets to enhance the understanding of the Exaltation ceremony for the Exaltee and Royal Arch Companions alike. “The Exaltation Ceremony – Setting the Scene” and “Sojourners Readings” are intended to be read at the relevant parts of the ceremony and all Royal Arch Chapters are encouraged to adopt these.
As it will be 100 years since his demise, in this coming July we are holding an exhibition in memory of the great man, it will last for 9 days, we hope to have many visitors to view the more than a hundred artefact’s we have and of course we hope to attract interested men into masonry.
The Provincial Grand Master (in company with a great many Shropshire Masons) has been delighted to congratulate W Bro David Tudor on his recent award of an MBE for services to Charity. He received the award on 11th June from Her Majesty the Queen (our Grand Patron).
The Freemasons of Essex and Hertfordshire have been long term supporters of Essex & Herts Air Ambulance Trust ever since the service began in 1998 and to date have raised an incredible £429,000 for the county’s life-saving Helicopter Emergency Medical Service. In recognition of over 16 years’ support the Charity hosted a thank you evening for the Freemasons on Wednesday 9th July at Bury Lodge Banqueting, Stansted. The evening was an opportunity for the Charity to thank the Freemasons for their generosity and support over the years and to share with them the vision for the future.
For the first time in over ten years Derbyshire Freemasonry will have a visual presence at the Bakewell Show between the 3rd and 4th August 2016.
With the Portal Dreadnought safely berthed at Eastgate Masonic Hall, it was time to welcome, and Install, the new Skipper who had agreed to take on this motley crew and navigate them through the next 12 months. Who was willing to take on this arduous task, none other than the much travelled Provincial Grand Master Overseer for 2015/2016 in the Province of Mark Master Masons West Yorkshire, Brother Charles David Lindsay, not a happy soul after he had to hand in his Acting Officers Jewel.
