The concept of what constitutes a man is time honored and tested. The traditional role of men has been essential to the development and maintenance of society. Learning to think for ourselves, to form our own judgments, to trust our decisions, to comprehend, to expand our knowledge, to choose this course of action over that, to decide between good and bad, have through the millennia been recognized as the attributes that define a man.
If you’ve never read it and are struggling with rejuvenating a faltering or troubled lodge, check out “Laudable Pursuit” by the Knights of the North HERE. It’s hard to believe that this has been out for a dozen years now, and yet plenty of Masons have still never run across it before. The online version is free for anyone, and there’s a Lulu hard copy booklet available at cost, as well. It could probably use some updating in some areas, but it still holds up today because, sadly, so many items discussed in it have not changed in over a decade.
Two plenary presentations and ninteen round table sessions will allow a well rounded development of the theme. Each will be chaired by a different lodge of research. The topics of each conference and round table will be published subsequently. A participation fee will be asked for the plenaries and panels.
Why do Scottish Freemasons celebrate the 4th of July? Look at any Scottish calendar, diary or any other document that lists important dates (holidays, ‘international’ days, dates of birth and deaths of ‘important’ people etc.) and none has any apparent relevance to Scottish Freemasonry.

Records of Royal Arch activity in England, in today’s Supreme Grand Chapter, start with the entry in the first minute book of the unnamed ‘Excellent Grand and Royal Chapter’. They are dated 22 March 1765 and show the first meeting to have been held at the mysterious and still unidentified Mr Inge’s premises, until the move to The Turk’s Head in Gerrard Street, Soho, London on 12 June of the same year. It took a further four years before Supreme Grand Chapter issued warrants establishing the first new Chapters under the jurisdiction of the Order.
