The Dean of Ripon the Very Reverend John Dobson, who will preach the Sermon, will lead the Service, being held on Sunday 24 September at 3.30 pm. The Cathedral Choir will contribute to the service and sing Sir Hubert Parry’s great Coronation anthem ‘I was Glad’, also a setting of the Te Deum by Ronald Perrin a former Organist and Master of Choristers at the Cathedral.
We are pleased to announce that the service will include the laying of a commemorative flagstone in the North Transept of the Cathedral with Masonic ceremony. The flagstone is engraved to mark the Tercentenary and the support given by the Province and the Masonic Charitable Foundation in the restoration work of the Cathedral. This will be a significant event in the history of the Province as it is the first time in 127 years that such a ceremony has taken place. On that occasion, the Provincial Grand Master laid the foundation stone of the North Aisle of Mexborough Church on 24 July 1890.
There will be congregational participation in the singing of a number of hymns, and the service will also include prayers lead by Brethren representing the various Faiths reflected within the membership of the Province.
We are delighted that the Assistant Grand Master, Sir David Wootton will be attending together with the Lord Lieutenants of North, South and West Yorkshire and Civic Dignitaries from throughout the Province.
Admission is by ticket, for which there is no charge, and can be obtained by application to the Provincial Office. Brethren are encouraged to bring their families to this important event in the history of the Province.
