W Bro. Matt Hewitson remembered in Lutudarum Lodge

The annual Empire Night at Lutudarum Lodge No. 9363 in Chesterfield is as always a wonderful occasion.  Friendship, fellowship and brotherhood all abound at the Festive Board.  This year was no exception with all magnificently overseen by the Director of Ceremonies, W Bro. Chris Sellars, ProvAGDC.

However, this year the evening was tinged with sadness as we all remembered the late W Bro. Matt Hewitson, PPGStwd, who was summoned to the Grand Lodge Above far, far too early.  A magnificent eulogy was given in the Temple by Bro. Roland Brown, but the real “lump in the throat” moment was when W Bro. Neil Hartburn, PAGDC, PPGStwd (Herts), entered the Lodge – not in his usual grand officer’s regalia but in W Bro. Hewitson’s Past Provincial Grand Steward’s apron and collar.  A fantastic tribute to the popular and hard working Mason who will be missed throughout the Province.
