An Open Evening was held to showcase the Masonic Tercentenary Exhibition at Kendal Museum on the evening of Saturday 8th July.
Over sixty masons and friends attended to view this superb collection of rare and important artefacts gathered from all over Cumbria and displayed here together for the first time.
The exhibition has been organised and co-ordinated by Dr Chris Lane with the assistance of many of the Westmorland Freemasons Lodges.
Dr Chris Lane welcomed the visitors and Carol Davies, the museum Curator gave a short introduction to the history of the museum and its collections. Norman Thompson DL., the Provincial Grand Master spoke about Freemasonry and the donations of many millions of pounds given away annually to non – Masonic charities. This aspect of Freemasonry is little known outside of the organisation.
The visitors enjoyed the freedom of the Masonic exhibition and the rest of the museum. There was much positive praise for the excellence of the work done by the museum staff to preserve and publicise the nationally and internationally elements of its collections.
‘Into the Light’ the Masonic Tercentenary exhibition runs until the 30th of September. Every Saturday Freemasons are on hand to answer questions and help elucidate the exhibits.
This is a rare chance to find out for yourself exactly what Freemasonry is and the tremendous contribution that it makes to the community.
