Social services grateful for Freemasons’ support

Stand Children’s Services in Half Moon Bay has hosted a morning tea to thank the Freemasons Foundation for a recent donation.

Stand regional manager Pene Frost says she feels incredibly grateful to the Freemasons for the contribution to the children.

“We had two playgrounds the children could not use because there was no cushion fall bark. It was $13,000 to replace it.”

Frost says that money was not available to them so she applied to the Masonic foundation within Freemasons which granted it.

“They said ‘no worries, is there anything else we can do?’ and I went ‘we probably have a few bikes that need replacing’ and bingo! There were bikes and scooters.”

She says local Freemasons often support Stand, holding Christmas parties for the children and supporting a number of them to visit Rotorua.

“The generosity of the Freemasons Foundation enables us to do our work and it provides us with tools to allow children to be children.”

Freemasons chairman David Mace says it was more than happy to aid Stand and commends its work in the community.

“One of our aims is to reward excellence. Stand is a very good example of helping those that do need assistance.

“We’ve done a huge amount for children across the board. Often what we’ve tried to do is help those that often struggle to get support from other areas,” he says.
