Honourable Fraternity of Ancient Freemasons donate £7982 to Chestnut Tree Hospice

Chestnut Hospice Donation
MW Grand Master of HFAF Christine Chapman, and partner making the Presentation  to Abigail Harley, of Chestnut Tree Hospice

Chestnut Tree House is the children’s hospice for East and West Sussex, Brighton and Hove and South East Hampshire and cares for 300 children and young adults from 0-19 years of age with progressive life-shortening conditions.

The money has been used to purchase an Olaf Cot, which is a specialist cot that can be used by children who despite illness and disability have the physical mobility to get in and out of bed independently.  Often the children we look after have very complex and unpredictable needs, including epilepsy and challenging behaviours, which mean normal beds are unsuitable.

The bed is made to feel light and airy, so the child can see what is going on.  At night, it becomes cosy and secure, while during the day it can be used as a play space if needed.  The adjustable height makes it easy for bed to wheelchair or seat transfers, which ensure care staff, are carrying out manual handling safely. Comfort, safety and protection they need when they stay with us at our “home from home”. Details of the cot can be found here http://www.theraposture.co.uk/cots/olaf

Plans are also in the mix, to consecrate a new lodge in Washington DC, United States of America, sometime in 2018.
