Freemasons sponsor Bedfordshire Games

Freemasons support the hugely successful Bedfordshire Games for teenagers and adults with severe learning difficulties

It’s 27 years since the first Bedfordshire Games for teenagers and adults with severe learning disabilities.

Back in 1989, concern was expressed about the lack of athletic events for school leavers with complex and profound learning difficulties.

An athletics meeting was organised in the July and it was so successful that it’s been repeated every year since, giving great pleasure to the hundreds of competitors who flock to Bedford International Athletics Stadium on the first Tuesday in July.

This year’s event was the best ever with more than 350 competitors participating in a total of 75 track and field events.

Bedfordshire Masons have been involved for five years, presenting prizes, providing a shield for the most deserving team and this year making a donation of £1,500.

Assistant Provincial Grand Master Eric Barford said: “We’re enthralled by the joyous looks on the faces of the competitors and happy to support an event that offers so much to those taking part.”
