A fantastic introduction to the delights of fishing was provided by the West Lancashire branch of the Masonic Trout and Salmon Fishing Charity (MTFC), who held their first event for 2017 at the Clear Water Fisheries, Borwick, Carnforth. The event was held over two days, with members of the Help for Heroes Band of Brothers and Sisters team attending on the first day and young adults with special needs attending on the second day.
Under lovely blue skies, the visitors arrived early on both days and once they had all been given their hats and safety glasses, were promptly introduced to their casters for the day. For most of the participants it was their first time experiencing fishing and although the business of catching fish was slow on both days, this was far outweighed by the pleasure they expressed in just participating in the sport of fishing. Although small in number, some fish were caught, mainly bream, creating a great sense of achievement for all those involved.
On the first day of fishing, the event was enhanced by the presence of the Provincial Grand Master Tony Harrison, Chairman of Lancaster and District Group Jim Wilson and the Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies Keith Kemp (chairman of the MTFC), whilst on the second day the Deputy Provincial Grand Master Philip Gunning and Keith were in attendance. Their support was greatly appreciated.
On both days, lunch was provided for all those participating, including the helpers, carers and castors, followed by a further afternoon session of fishing. On the second day, all the young adults attending were given a certificate of achievement from Philip, acknowledging their attendance at this splendid event.
The organisers would like to thank all those who helped on the day to make it such a success.
