Freemasons donation helps stroke survivors to rebuild their lives

A Sheffield art group will be able to help more stroke survivors to rebuild their lives, after a generous £2,000 donation from the Sheffield and District Freemasons in the Community.

Sheffield Touch of Colour Stroke Group is a Stroke Association voluntary group. The group meets each month to explore different artistic techniques, and help members overcome the devastating effects of stroke. Originally an art course run by the Stroke Association, the art group became Sheffield Touch of Colour in April 2018, run by the charity’s volunteers in the area.

The funds were raised through a variety of fundraising events, including a sponsored walk.

Carole Clarke, Group Secretary from Sheffield Touch of Colour Stroke Group, said: “We’re thrilled to receive such a generous donation from the Freemasons. The funds will go a long way in providing equipment to help the group to run and support many other people affected by stroke in Sheffield.

“The group itself is very friendly and informal and our members enjoy trying different types of art techniques while meeting with friends. The group is led by Maggie Macdougall, who is our Chair and resident art tutor, and inspires us all.”

The Sheffield Touch of Colour Stroke Group meets on the second and third Monday of every month at The Jesus Centre, 93 Broomspring Lane, Sheffield, from 1:30pm-3:30pm. For more information, please contact Maggie Macdougall on 07707474591 or email [email protected].
