Cheshire Freemasons donate £50,000 to Scouts

It is as part of £300,000 pound celebration fund the Freemasons are handing out to charities across the county

SCOUTS across Cheshire are to share a £50,000 gift from Freemasons celebrating their 300th anniversary.

It is as part of £300,000 pound celebration fund the freemasons are handing out to charities across the county.

Part of the money will be spent on enhancing facilities at a county Scouts camp at Sandiway.

The rest will be shared among Scout groups across Cheshire, and to launch new Scout groups.

“We are absolutely thrilled to be receiving this funding which will allow us to offer the fun and adventure of Scouting to more young people across Cheshire,” said Graham Phillips, County Commissioner.

“It is an incredible show of support from Cheshire Freemasons and one for, which we are extremely grateful.

The money for new groups is very welcome.

“There are young people on waiting lists looking to join existing Scout groups, and this funding will help us establish more groups in areas where there is a need and offer more places.”

Stephen Blank, The Provincial Grand Master of Cheshire Freemasons, said: “This gift comes from funds provided by more than 5,000 Freemasons from across Cheshire.

“They are ordinary family men who regularly donate out of their own pockets to worthy charitable causes.

“The principles and ethics that the Scout movement instil in young people are very much in line with those of Freemasonry, and in the coming months intend developing a Scouts themed Masonic lodge at Willaston, near Crewe, in the hope of attracting senior Scouts into Masonry.

“So I can’t think of a better way to celebrate our 300th anniversary than giving support to the Scouts.”
