Year 6 pupils from Cippenham School, in Slough, recently enjoyed an end of term day out at Whipsnade Zoo thanks to Buckinghamshire Freemasons.

Members of the Old Paludians Lodge, a former Grammar School Lodge which meets at the Slough Masonic Centre, wanted to send the children on a great day out but at £3,000 it was a big ask to fund the whole trip.

Bob Cole, as secretary of the Lodge, approached Andrew Hough, Chairman of the Bucks Masonic Centenary Fund (BMCF), on behalf of the Lodge members to see if the Fund could help.

The committee of the BMCF was delighted to donate half of the cost, with the Old Paludian Lodge members funding the remainder of the trip.

The children had a wonderful time: Jake said his favourite animals were the elephants, whilst Shania and Hussain loved the bird show and Sanu liked the tall and cute giraffes. Archie said: “Dear Freemasons, this has been wonderful trip and a fantastic experience. We had an amazing time. It was a trip that we will never forget. On behalf of Year 6 I would like to say … Thank You!”

Bob Cole added: “The members of the Old Paludians Lodge wanted to do something special for the local children and when we heard that the school was struggling to fund this educational trip we decided to see if we could help. With the money from the BMCF we were very pleased to be able to cover the cost of the whole trip.”
