An enjoyable day on the golf course

Ellesmere Golf Club, Worsley, which is a beautiful parkland course that measures 6287 yards and is a testing par 70 and has a clubhouse that was rebuilt in 1996 and has all the facilities required to accommodate golfers in comfort on completion of their rounds, was the venue for the annual Eccles and District Group golf competition.

For the event, there were 16 golfers, comprising of both Freemasons and non-Masonic guests who came along to Ellesmere Golf Club to support the event, on what turned out to be a glorious sunny day.

After a light lunch of soup and sandwiches the golfers teed off at 13:30 in their fourballs for an enjoyable yet competitive round of golf, which was enjoyed by all who took part, resulting in some fine scores.

At the end of a keenly fought completion the prize winners were as follows. Guest golfer Richard Taylor won the prize for nearest to the pin on the selected hole.

In the competition for the best score from a non-Masonic guest, Fred McKewan won the prize with a great score 34 points, the second highest score of the day.

For the Masonic competitors, the Masonic runner-up was Ron Gorton of Victoria Lodge No 1345 with a fine score of 31 points.

The winner of the Masonic competition and recipient of the Joe Hall Trophy and Harry Davies Clock for the ensuing 12 months was John Hughes of Egerton Worsley Lodge No 1213 with a wonderful score of 35 points.

Dinner was served following the golf where the participants were joined by the Eccles and District Group Chairman Dave Walmsley. The organiser of the competition Ian Lynch thanked all those who took part in the event for their continued support and then invited Dave to assist with the presentations.

Dave thanked the catering staff for their service of a superb meal and the management of the golf club for their hospitality and the immaculate condition of the greens. He also thanked all of the competitors and the guests for the full commitment which they had given to the event.

Dave expressed his thanks to the Eccles Group Golf Rep, Ian Lynch for his hard work which had made the event such a success.
