On 9th May, Flyfishers’ Lodge No. 9347, under the umbrella of MTSFC the Masonic Fishing Charity, held their annual charity fishing day for children with additional or special educational needs.
Held at The Yeaveley Estate near Ashbourne, this year’s children were from the Royal School for The Deaf, Derby.
Thankfully the weather was fine on the day, giving ideal flyfishing conditions – the proof of this being all the children caught several rainbow trout each.
After fishing in the morning, the children and brethren enjoyed a buffet lunch and barbecue prepared by the kitchen “team” of brethren’s wives.
Certificates and medals were then presented to each child by the Provincial Grand Master, RW Bro. Steven Varley, and bouquets of flowers presented to the ladies by the Past Provincial Grand Master, RW Bro. Graham Rudd.
The event was supported by several local companies, namely:
- Foundation Derbyshire for help with funding,
- Mr Stuart Lees for providing the bouncy castle,
- Mr Richard Taylor of Owen Taylor Butchers for supplying the burgers, and
- W Bro. David Yates of Luke Evans Bakery for the bread rolls.
Bro Peter Mitchell, a member of Flyfishers’ Lodge and the Derbyshire Representative of the MTSFC, said, “Once again we’ve had a most enjoyable and successful day. To be able to get young children to participate in our sport when perhaps ordinarily they may be unable to, is so rewarding. The excitement and smiles say it all! Thanks and well done to all involved.”
