East Lancashire Freemason honoured for donating 100 pints of blood 2

Peter Blackhurst, Master of Charity Centenary Lodge, No. 3786, which meets at Farnworth, East Lancashire, has been presented with an award from the NHS Blood and Transplant service for donating 100 pints of blood. He was one of 30 individuals honoured in a ceremony at Gorton Monastery for donors in the Manchester area who had reached such a milestone.

He lives with his Wife, Evelyn, at Dukes’ Court, Wellingborough, a residential Care Home, and his recent birthday party with family and friends, included RWBro Barrie Hall, WM of Risdene Lodge and WBro Steve Squires, Secretary, and their Wives. RWBro Hall presented WBro Rye with his 50th Certificate, explaining the reasons for the award of his certificate of merit in 2000.

Ray joined the Lodge of Industry in 1956 and although only a day away from another big day in his life, the birth of his daughter, Ray’s wife Alice gave special dispensation for him to attend and be initiated. As a mark of the times, it took Ray some 17 years to climb the ladder and become master in 1973 before he carried on with various other offices in support of his lodge.
