The Branch fishing events this year proved very successful with three days for the children, the first at Gilcrux on Wednesday 11th May and the second and third days at Tarnhouse Tarn near Kirkby Lonsdale on the 17th and 18th May respectively.

We hosted children from the Charles Rennie School in Carlisle (their second visit) at Gilcrux and the Sandgate School, Kendal and finally the Sandside Lodge School from Ulverston on the last two days.

Sunshine proved a blessing as sometimes the pupils can get cold quickly, but excitement of catching fish during the day shut out any fears about the weather. We presented the usual prizes with medals and certificates for all the participants and at the end a special trophy presentation for the most fish caught, the biggest fish caught and the best amateur improver on the day. The children were overcome with excitement and emotion during the prize-giving.

We must thank all our casters for their attendance without whom we would not be able to staff the day. We also welcome new casters this year, Tom Elliott and Alan Tomlinson, we hope you will support us next year.

Special thanks go to W. Bro John Barry for providing rosettes again and we must not forget our Fundraiser W. Bro Keith Lowthian. Fundraising is a difficult task but Keith has worked hard and obtained grants and financial support which has enabled us to purchase a trailer to transport our marquee and equipment. Well done Keith and thank you.

All is now packed away for another year but don’t forget us please. Your donations ensure we have funds to provide a cracking day for the disabled and disadvantaged children who, so rarely, get a day out to enjoy the countryside.

Best wishes to you all
