Middlesex and Hertfordshire Freemasons Grand Family Fete – Saturday 22nd July 2017

Proud to celebrate with you 300 years of English Freemasonry

On Saturday 22nd July in the stunning grounds of the Royal Masonic School for Girls, Rickmansworth, both Middlesex and Hertfordshire Provinces will be joining together in this Tercentenary year to run a joint Grand Family Fete from 12 noon until 4.30pm.

As the more energetic of the Grand Lodges, which formed the United Grand Lodge of England in 1813 was denominated the “Ancients” and the majority of the Lodges under its supervision were known as “Atholl” Lodges, it appeals to us that an article consisting of references thereto by many of the Masonic writers may not prove uninteresting.

HISTORICAL SURVEY – Higher Degrees

Square & Compass Door Knocker

The early history of the so-called “Higher Degrees” is even more obscure than that of the Craft, and in consequence a tendency has grown up to regard them as “Manufactured” during the 18th century.

In my opinion this is too hasty a conclusion, for some of these degrees at any rate bear every evidence of antiquity, and contain that wisdom which has been handed down from generation to generation.
