The Province of Monmouthshire was this year represented at the 12th National Masonic Clay Shooting Championship by four members of the Monmouthshire Provincial Clay Shooting Association and four guests of W. Bro. Robert Daw. This years event was held at held at Wedgnock Clay Shooting Ground in Warwickshire under the banner of the Provincial Grand Lodge Of Warwickshire on the 18th of June. We were warmly welcomed by the host province and staff of the shooting ground and after a chance for a coffee and bacon sandwich after our long drive the day began with a safety briefing from the ground manager followed by the format for the day. Once he briefing was over we split up into our respective squads and headed for the shooting ground. The 100 target competition was held over 14 stands to give as wide a variety as possible. Following a sporting’s morning shoot with plenty of cheerful banter we finished the morning with a plated buffet lunch.

500 supporters of the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity dined and partied the night away at Edgbaston on Friday 8th July to celebrate 25 years of Helimed service to the counties of Herefordshire, Shropshire, Worcestershire and Staffordshire. The AIR25 Ball and Awards Ceremony celebrated the special achievements of individuals and organisations who had made continuous and significant contributions to the Charity over the quarter century of its existence.

The Banner will be dedicated by the Provincial Grand Chaplain at the PGL meeting in April 2017. Then as part of the Tercentenary Celebrations it will complete a journey through the 8 Provinces that form the South West Region, Jersey, Guernsey and Alderney, Hampshire and the IofW, Wiltshire, Dorset, Somerset, Devonshire and Cornwall.

On 21st June the peace and quiet of Trafalgar Lawn, the home of the Masonic Centre in Barnstaple, was shattered by the arrival of sixteen large powerful motorcycles! Brothers from the ‘Widows Sons South East Chapter’ were on a marathon 24 hour ride visiting 12 Provinces in the South of England from Kent to Cornwall and back to Kent.

The need for this further essay was first made apparent to me when—in my capacity as Secretary of the Lodge and Editor of the Transactions—I began to receive inquiries from Brethren as far away as Vancouver and Singapore, asking for materials and information which might help them to complete their own papers on Kipling, and I found, to my surprise, that while our library contains a great deal of relevant material, there has never been a paper on Kipling in our Transactions.
