Candelabrum in silver presented to W. Bro. Richard Gill, Deputy Provincial Grand Master of Yorkshire and West Riding by Motherland Lodge, No. 3861, 1922.

Silver plated candelabrum with a central stem decorated with acanthus leaf designs. Attached to the main body are four scroll arms with cups and drip pans decorated with flowers and foliage motifs. At the bottom are four lion head feet.

Richard Gill was born on 12 February 1864 at Steeton, Kildwick, near Keighley, West Yorkshire. He was the son of Jonas Gill, bobbin maker and later draper and clothier, and his wife, Jane. As a young man he worked as a draper’s assistant in his father’s shop and later became a drapery agent before becoming a cotton manufacturer and merchant working in Manchester, retiring from this business in 1924. He was a Justice of the Peace for the West Riding of Yorkshire and a member of the West Riding County Council. By 1926 he was living at Liversage, Yorkshire.
