East Lancashire Freemason honoured for donating 100 pints of blood 2

Peter Blackhurst, Master of Charity Centenary Lodge, No. 3786, which meets at Farnworth, East Lancashire, has been presented with an award from the NHS Blood and Transplant service for donating 100 pints of blood. He was one of 30 individuals honoured in a ceremony at Gorton Monastery for donors in the Manchester area who had reached such a milestone.

Jean-Ovide Decroly was born on July 23rd, 1871 in Ronse, Belgium. He studied medicine at the University of Ghent and spent half a year studying at the University of Berlin. At the University of Berlin he studied the action of toxins and antitoxins on general nutrition. After starting his medical practice he became involved in a school for mentally and physically disabled children. It was through his work at the school that Decroly became interested in education.

On Wednesday, 29th June, Brethren from Arenal Lodge visited El Preventorio children’s home in Real de Gandia to present another cheque for over 1600 euros to buy much needed equipment for the staff and children. Immediate Past Master WBro William Turney visited, with his successor and new Master WBro Bob Bullingham, and the Lodge Treasurer, WBro Ian Brown. The cheque was presented to the director of the home, Sra MariaJosé Castelló Morant who thanked the Brethren warmly for this cheque and for the other monies raised by the Lodge over the past two years.

He lives with his Wife, Evelyn, at Dukes’ Court, Wellingborough, a residential Care Home, and his recent birthday party with family and friends, included RWBro Barrie Hall, WM of Risdene Lodge and WBro Steve Squires, Secretary, and their Wives. RWBro Hall presented WBro Rye with his 50th Certificate, explaining the reasons for the award of his certificate of merit in 2000.
