Provincial Grand Lodge of Devonshire
The Devon Masonic Golf Association Spring Meeting was held on Thursday 26th May 2016 at Honiton Golf Club, Honiton. 32 Brethren in total from North, East, South and West Devon enjoyed a day’s golf with a 2 course meal and prize presentation all in aid of Charity.
The format for the day was a 4 ball better ball with ¾ handicap (Playing as Pairs). The changeable summer weather shone on the golfers during play making it a great and sunny day for all who took part. Twice a year on the 4th Thursday of May and August Masons from all over the Province of Devonshire are invited to play for the Vale of Haldon Bowl and Nigel Adkins Shield (Runner up) along with cheques made payable to their Lodge for a charity of their choosing.
There are also charity cheques for runner up 2nd & 3rd places. In total charity cheques to the value of £200 were presented to the winners. The Honiton Golf Club put on a superb evening meal and a raffle was also held.
After the meal there was a prize presentation and a special presentation to WBro. Peter Haig for his services as President of the association as well as being his birthday for which a card was signed by all who attended.
This year’s Spring Meeting Winners were:
1st Prize – Vale of Haldon Bowl (40 points) – presented by WBro. Alan Seager, Secretary – Peter Haigh, Brunswick 159 & Clem Spencer, The St. John Lodge 1247.
Runner Up – Nigel Adkins Shield (39 points countback) – presented by WBro. Peter Haigh President – John Eaton / Simon Bennett both from Perseverance Lodge No 164
2nd Place (39 points) – John Cottrell & Richard Newman both Devon Farmers Lodge No. 9250
3rd Place (37 points / countback) – John Pritchard Lord Roborough Lodge 5789 & John Smerdon, Old Plymothian & Mannameadian Lodge No 6279
