The meeting of Provincial Grand Lodge saw Alan Jones step down and be replaced by Peter Schofield as Chairman of Furness and South Lakeland Group. To acknowledge the contribution Alan has made to the group, a dinner was held in his honour at the Fairfield Suite in Barrow-in-Furness Masonic Hall which was attended by 95 brethren
A member of Leigh Lodge No 4744, who is also a Provincial Grand Steward, Steve Ralph, has been recognised by Her Majesty the Queen in her birthday honours for services to the community. It was announced in the honours list that Steve has been awarded an MBE.
Ellesmere Golf Club, Worsley, which is a beautiful parkland course that measures 6287 yards and is a testing par 70 and has a clubhouse that was rebuilt in 1996 and has all the facilities required to accommodate golfers in comfort on completion of their rounds, was the venue for the annual Eccles and District Group golf competition.
The combination of gathering storm clouds and threatened heavy rain did not deter the dedicated bowlers of Ormskirk and Bootle Group who came together to compete for the annual crown green bowls tournament. The Dog and Gun in Aughton was once again the venue for this event.
After a night’s recovery and a hearty breakfast the group commenced their second day on the road, well the canal to be exact. The first day’s cycling had resulted in a grand total of 73 miles covered, and as anticipated and planned would be the longest stretch of the ride.
Chief celebs were the Provincial Grand Master Tony Harrison and his wife Maureen, Assistant Provincial Grand Master David Grainger, who carries the designation of Patron of the Fellowship due to his office, was also present with his wife Beryl. In his new position as group chairman Peter Schofield holds the office of President of the Fellowship and he along with his wife Michelle was welcomed to his first meeting in that role.
Past Provincial Publicity Officer, Mark Holloway was facing the camera instead of behind it when he attended his retirement dinner held at Bryn Masonic Hall. The West Lancashire publicity team were there to pay tribute to Mark’s remarkable work during his six year reign as the Provincial Publicity Officer.
It was ‘just a perfect day’. That was how one participant described the Lancaster and District Group Annual Sponsored Walk. Similar song titles could have been appropriately applied with ‘Walking on sunshine’ and ‘Bring me sunshine’ being two that immediately spring to mind.
