Basil Gilbert celebrates 70 Years as a Freemason

On Wednesday 8th June, Assistant Provincial Grand Master  WBro Martin R Barlow  together with a group of Members of Massada Lodge No 8130 which meets at Altrincham Masonic Hall and friends, helped WBro Dr. Basil Gilbert OBE celebrate 70 Years in Freemasonry.

Basil is the Senior Member of the Lodge and was initiated on the 4th March 1946 into Wahab Lodge No.988 in District of Punjab India, whilst he was on active service as a Captain in the Army.  Since partition Karachi is now located in Pakistan and like many other Lodges has changed its name, to become ‘Wahab or Benevolent Lodge’ one of 5 in Karachi working under the District Grand Lodge of Pakistan which has 13 Lodges.

Basil is no longer able to attend Lodge and is now resident in Warrington.

The event was marked by the presentation of a beautifully decorated Certificate bearing the seal of the Province of Cheshire and signed by the Provincial Grand Master and a flute or two of Bubbly.
