FREEMASONS from Hawarden and Farfield Masonic Halls raised the sum of £1,700 to present an ECG machine to the Quay Health centre in Connah’s Quay.

The original ECG machine had been functioning for 10 years before it stopped working and was in need of urgent replacement. An appeal was made to all Freemasons in Group 6, for donations to purchase a replacement machine. The new machine has been made available to all surgeries in the local Covid-19 hub.

An ECG (electrocardiogram) records the electrical activity of the heart at rest. It provides information about your heart rate and rhythm, and shows if there is enlargement of the heart due to high blood pressure (hypertension) or evidence of a previous heart attack (myocardial infarction).

An ECG can recognize the signs of blocked arteries. Since the test identifies anomalies of heart rhythm; impaired blood flow to the heart, otherwise known as ischemia, can also be identified.

The Partners from The Quay Health Centre said: “We would like to thank North Wales Freemasons for their extremely generous donation. We are humbled by their kindness and know how much the local community will benefit from this machine.

“We are blessed to have such warm connections with our Masonic friends who have been a great support to us since the beginning of the Covid19 pandemic.”

Ray Houlbrook, Group 6 Chairman added: “I would personally like to thank everyone for their support in these trying times. When presenting our donation, I was surprised at the size of the new ECG, it being no more than a small netbook, great technology.”
