Haven’t we met before

Provincial Grand Superintendent Tony Harrison, witnessed one of his assistants in the craft, Mark Dimelow,  installed as First Principal in Blundellsands Chapter No 2289 on his first visit to the chapter.

The ceremony was orchestrated in an impeccable manner by the newly appointed Provincial Grand Director of ceremonies, Paul Hesketh.

Blundellsands chapter includes amongst its members, John James, Vice Chairman of the Gladstone Group and former vice chairman, Keith Sanders, not forgetting AsPrGM, Mark Dimelow the incoming first Principal.  They were pleased to have in their company guests, including three Assistants to the Grand Principals, Paul Shepherd, Ian Cureden and Sam Robinson. With Peter Connolly, David Anderton and Bill Culshaw, Chairman of the Gladstone group of Lodges and Chapters, completing the plethora of high ranking attendees.

The chapter was opened by the three principals at 5.45pm and once the minutes of the last convocation had been confirmed and signed, The Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies, Paul Hesketh, was admitted.  He informed the three principals that The Grand Superintendent Tony Harrison was without and demanded admission. Acting first principal, John James, replied that they would be delighted to receive him. The companions stood to receive Tony accompanied by Bill Culshaw, together with other Supreme Grand and Provincial Grand companions. There were also a number of acting officers of Provincial Grand Chapter who led the procession into the temple, Jim Miller PrGSN, Alan Jones PrDepGSwdB, Ian Walton PrAsstGSoj, and Edward Warner PrGStwB.

John, on behalf of himself and the members of Blundellsands Chapter, welcomed Tony and offered him the Sceptre of his office, Tony thanked John and swiftly returned it!  The ceremony of installation then proceeded, Jonathan Mackie installed as third principal with the robe address given by Robin Miles, Robin was  installed as second principal with the robe address given by Mark Dimelow, Mark was installed as first principal with the robe address given by John.

Mark’s next duty was to appoint and invest his officer’s. Peter Gaskin as past first principal. Derek Faux as treasurer, Mike Cunliffe, director of ceremonies, John James as ADC. Peter Hesketh as Scribe E, Bruce Sievewright as both almoner and charity steward, David Chestnutt as Scribe N, Tony Chin as principal sojourner, Peter Taaffe as first assistant sojourner with Keith Sanders as second assistant sojourner. Appointed as Stewards on this busy evening were Ray Grist, Chen Rowlands, Gary Hall and Alan Morris.

At the end of the ceremony Tony congratulated Mark, Robin and Jonathan on their appointments to office.  He also congratulated the acting first principal, for the part he played in the ceremony which he said, was one of the finest ceremonies he had witnessed. Following the first rising, Tony and the rest of the officers of Supreme Grand Chapter retired.

When the business of the chapter was completed, Mark gave the command to principal sojourner, Tony, to close the chapter.

14 members and 20 guests then took their place at the festive board to enjoy a fine meal with an ample supply of liquid refreshments.

At the end of this special evening the Janitor’s Toast was given by Alan Trees. The companions, members and guests, then bid each other a safe journey home reflecting on a very memorable evening in the company of The Grand superintendent, Tony Harrison.
