HAWORTH Primary School has received a cash boost from the Freemasons.

The school has been awarded £1,000 to buy new sports kits, which will be used for PE and extra-curricular team activities.

Thirty-five groups across the Freemasons province – which is based on the old West Riding, and stretches from Sheffield in the south to Ripon in the north – have shared in a grants handout totalling £64,000.

Every year the province distributes £200,000 to good causes.

In addition to ‘minor’ grants – ranging from £600 to £6,000 – awarded on a quarterly basis, bigger amounts often exceeding £30,000 are presented annually.

David S Pratt, provincial grand master of the Freemasons Province of Yorkshire West Riding, said: “Being able to financially support Haworth Primary School and other good causes is a wonderful testament to the generosity of our members – and a fantastic way to celebrate the new year.”
