W. Bro Richard McMillan, PPSGD, formerly of Sandbach, Cheshire celebrated his 100th Birthday at the Prince Edward Duke of Kent Court RMBI care home at Stisted near Braintree, Essex where he resides with his wife. Many of his family (numbering more than 40) joined him at the Stisted home to help him celebrate his birthday.
W. Bros Bill Morrison, PPJGD, and Robert Dickinson, PPSGD, from Penda Lodge No. 7360, Sandbach, attended the family party, to make a presentation of a 100th birthday certificate on behalf of the Cheshire Provincial Grand Master, RW Bro. Stephen Martin Blank. Bro. McMillan was both surprised and honoured to receive it.
Bro. McMillan was Initiated on the 17th June 1972 into Bernicia Lodge No. 4479 in Northumberland and subsequently became a joining member of Penda Lodge once he had moved to Sandbach where he was heavily involved with the the improvements to the masonic buildings. He was an active member of various orders in masonry and even at his considerable age was able to deliver parts of the ceremonies. He was also a prominent member of the local community, becoming Chairman of the council in 1992 and was a Trustee of the local Alms Houses which he continued with into his nineties. He was sorry to leave his lodge in Cheshire but with his family living in Essex and its environs it seemed best for both him and his wife to move into Stisted, where they are now both live happily.
