£1,000 donation from Derbyshire Provincial Grand Charity to support Toyota fund raising for destitute families and children

On 16th December 2016, the Assistant Provincial Grand Master, WBro Ian Copestake accompanied by WBro Martin Harris from Lodge of St John 8070 visited Toyota Manufacturing UK in Burnaston to meet with members of the plant maintenance team who have been raising funds and collecting food for destitute families and children from Burton and the surround area. Toyota maintenance manager Barry Scraton started the activities to support the families via the Burton branch of the Salvation Army only 6 weeks ago and mentioned the project to WBro Harris who in turn requested support from Provincial Grand Charity which responded with the £1,000 donation.
During the presentation of the cheque it was discovered that the size of the problem had grown significantly since we were originally made aware. Three weeks ago, the request was to support 55 families, since then that has grown to 65 families and over 250 children with an extra 41 being referred by social workers to the Salvation Army on the day of the presentation.

Toyota staff members have already collected dozens of bags of food and toys, the donation from Provincial Grand Charity will be used to buy additional food, basic supplies and toys to help those in need.
